The Marion County Hospital District (MCHD) established the COVID-19 Relief Fund to help nonprofits address the immediate needs of our county’s most vulnerable residents who are impacted by COVID-19. MCHD partnered with the Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County to implement the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
MCHD encourages Marion County nonprofits to take advantage of the Community Foundation resources to learn whether they may be eligible for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) forgivable loans through the Small Business Administration.
If a COVID-19 Relief Fund grantee later receives PPP or other government funding for expenses listed in their COVID-19 Relief Fund budget proposal, they must notify MCHD immediately. The grantee should propose a plan to reallocate these funds to other essential COVID-19 crisis expenditures. If MCHD does not approve the proposed reallocation, the grantee must return the funds, or request that they be converted into an interest-free bridge loan.
Grant Criteria
The COVID-19 Relief Fund’s intent is to assist critical nonprofits with increased demand for services due to COVID-19. Funding will be directed to nonprofits with deep roots in the community and a strong track-record serving Marion County’s vulnerable populations.
The Marion County Hospital District will consider grant requests from nonprofits serving vulnerable populations with basic needs (food, housing, living expenses, etc.) if they had significant reduction in funding due to COVID-19 or an increased demand in services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grants will be directed to organizations with the greatest capacity to serve citizens for each service category.
Grants are expected to range between $5,000 to $25,000 and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. 501(c) nonprofit organizations and public agencies are eligible to apply for additional funds as needs arise. Requests will be reviewed by the Marion County Hospital District and the Community Foundation for Ocala/Marion County. Grants will be awarded as quickly as possible.
