Judith (Judi) Ray Cassell Robinson was born August 14, 1935, in Decatur, Illinois, to Berry Hill Cassell and Esculine Martha Smith. She was one of three daughters. Judi loved to dance and met George Grayson Robinson at his Arthur Murray dance studio. They tied the knot in June 1956 and danced together for most of their married years. Their daughter, Tracy, was born in March 1957, and their little family was complete when they adopted Sandra in May 1967.
She was a self-described “child whisperer” who adored children and loved to see them happy. One of her greatest attributes was to allow children to express their quizzical nature, which in turn increased their self confidence. Judi could join right in and make them feel important and gave them room for self-expression. She especially liked to let them do things their parents probably wouldn’t, like climbing on furniture. She and the children often made swords out of wrapping paper rolls and had hysterically funny sword fights while jumping from bed to bed.
Judi cherished the gospel of Jesus Christ and was happiest while studying or preparing a lesson for church. She was an amazing teacher and a self-taught religious historian. She never stopped learning, even learning to love her grand-dog, Hunter!
Almost everyone who knew Judi would say that she was a loyal friend. She was generous with her love and her true friends became her family. She valued hard work and had the ability to find opportunities to serve others in unique and meaningful ways. The Judi Cares Memorial Foundation will work to fund projects that further the safety and education of Marion County youth.
